Patalavaca Beach has to be one of my favourite beaches in the South. It isn’t the largest or the prettiest but it has a great atmosphere. I often walk from my home near Anfi del Mar to Patalavaca and view the beach from above, the sea looks so inviting and clear.
Patalavaca is on the South coast of Gran Canaria and located 5 minutes from the more well-known Arguineguín.
It is easy to get to by bus or taxi from most places on the island as it is on the main route from the North to the South. You will arrive at the roundabout and there is a road leading down to the beach where if you come by car you will want to try and park.
The beach itself is split into 2 sections with a few excellent restaurants if you wish to eat. They are also popular on an evening time and especially with Scandinavian visitors in the winter months. I recommend you book in advance or pop in once you are there to reserve your table.
It isn’t a surprise they are busy as the views out to the Atlantic Ocean are fantastic and who could beat having a wonderful meal and a cool drink right on the beach front whilst listening to the ocean waves.
The 2 beaches have a few sunbeds and umbrellas available for rent but most people who come here just bring their own towels and sit on the sand. There is also a recently erected cabin with toilets and showers available for a small charge.
If you haven’t visited for a while, you might not have seen the beautifully renovated pool, bar and restaurant. It is named the Kai Club and it is a great place for music, chillout bar and restaurant in a rather luxurious setting. It is a paid for venue, however you can also eat and drink on the small terrace by the beach side or in the restaurant above. They host parties, weddings, and events.
You will often see families or groups at the Patalavaca beach loadened with their picnics. However, there is a small supermarket which is very good with excellent prices. They also make sandwiches for takeaway so you can choose the bread of your choice and the guy behind the deli counter will make up your sandwich.
The sea is wonderful at Patalavaca beach however the waves can occasionally be quite rough at times, so do make sure you take care if they are.
There are no watersports here but you can find plenty at the nearby Anfi beach.
A short walk away there is also the Playa Aquamarina. A small bay with calm water and ideal for families with small children. This is located below the Radisson Blu Hotel.
