Our Taberna La Caña Restaurant Tasting

On our recent Taberna La Caña restaurant tasting we had a Salmon Tatare, Lamb Shoulder, Seafood-Paella and three different desserts. We absolutely loved all dishes, but we could not believe the perfection and exquisite flavour compositions of the desserts!

Taberna La Caña in their own words:

“We are specialised in Spanish food, Mediterranean cuisine and tapas.  Here you can enjoy and share our fresh homemade food with your friends and family.” The restaurant is run by two brothers José, the head chef, and Sergio, the general manager.

Taberna La Caña Specialties

As already mentioned before, the restaurant is famous for their Paellas! Their Paellas are made with fresh seafood from Galicia and daily homemade broths to give it an authentic flavour.

Another one of their specialties and their guest’s favourite (and ours) is the fresh suckling lamb from Segovia cooked with rosemary and garlic for 24 hours in the oven. So tender it can be eaten with a spoon.

The steak lovers will not get disappointed! Imported from Ávila, the North of Spain, they have an amazing 28-day dry-aged rib steak from the beef. We tried the T-Bone steak in their new restaurant CANDENTE, and I must say it was one of the best T-Bone steaks I have ever eaten. It was cooked to perfection as we liked it, juicy and delicious.

The Desserts

Every day the chefs create a special dessert additionally to the three which are a la carte. On our visit we tried all three desserts a la carte which are always available. Each one of them was simply amazing! My favourite – the Coulant de Chocolate:

Crême Brulé

Leche Frita – Traditional Canarian

This dessert here is a traditional “Leche Frita” in a modern look, which means “Baked or Fried Milk” if directly translated from Spanish. A secret family recepy handed down from generation to generation. Gorgeous!

Really doesn’t look like much from the front, and could be easily overlooked. Went there the first time just to get a decent white wine on a warm evening and loved the atmosphere and the awesome knowledgeable German bartender. Asked about a few things on the menu and if dairy could be removed etc. was basically told no, but eventually found a dish that might be one of the best things I ate all holiday. The Bean and Clam soup. €18?! ‘It can’t be that good’ I said. It was. It was really excellent. Like a proper bistro style style of cooking and excellent ingredients. The owner was awesome too. Really solid place worth trying. Not your usual tourist trap in any way.

The staff and the food are absolutely amazing. We have been here 3 times already and plan to repeat at least one more time because of the food and the people. If you are trying to decide where to go for dinner this is THE place. And their Paella is the dish to try if you are not allergic to seafood. The rice and seafood is perfectly cooked and both are rich in flavor and have amazing texture. The Paella can be ordered for two or for one is payed a bit extra and both options are so worth it. This is a dish that you might not be able to make/buy at your home country making it a MUST buy.I just can’t say enough good things about this place, the staff and their amazing heartfelt made food that make you and your stomach grateful.

The food was excellent & the host, was phenomenal. Mr Antonio, thank you! Knowing how to approach, address and serve people indicates pure intelligence. And this man has it all! The best paella in town for sure. We enjoyed it.
Great (mixed) paella! That has to be said first. The starters were great as well. The pork belly and the gamba al ajillo were delicious. Ordered a small bottle of semi sweet white wine. Did not expect much from it, but it was actually pretty good also! The service was excellent!

Me and my partner have been in Gran Canaria for a few days and it hasn’t been easy finding a good paella. Luckily with a Google search we found this cozy tavern with great traditional food, but the paella was especially delicious! Also we have to say how much we appreciated the staff, who was more than welcoming and very professional. A few of the customers were very loud, complaining a lot for no reason and behaved very rude to the staff, completely unnecessary. Hats off to the staff for handling these situations and providing us with one of the best meals of our holiday!

This was one of the best paella's I've had in years! Absolutely delicious! And very well priced! The service is also attentive and outstanding! Only slight downside is noise from the bar down the street.

Overall solid place, friendly staff, and enjoyed my experience. 4 instead of 5 as while I enjoyed the food, it wasn’t really knocking it out of the park to land a 5. Lamb was fine, burger was fine, fries were fine - I’m happy we went, but subjectively it was just decent food at a slightly higher price.Would I go again? Sure. Do I recommend it? Sure. Will you enjoy it? Probably (and definitely a way better choice than the places near the water)
