Maspalomas Sand Dunes

The Maspalomas Sand dunes have recently been awarded the status of a natural protected area covering over 400 hectares. In the year 2004 the camel ride was officially declared a cultural heritage of the community of San Bartolomé de Tirajana.

Manolo, Pepe, Roberto, TT, Macho, Daniel and Sofia are just some of the 35 camels and their experienced Saharan guides who will take you through this beautiful and unusual landscape.

The trip is both enjoyable and hilarious and is around 30 – 35 minutes long. It is suitable for all ages and children under 3 ride free, sat on an adults knee. The camels are well looked after and have comfortable 2 seater saddles so you don’t have to ride on the hump!

Great value for money. You go for a walk around the Maspalomas dunes on a trail of camels with other people for about 30 mins. Was not my first time riding a camel so I knew what to expect. The people were pleasant (as well as the camels haha). I recommend you try!

An amazing experience. The kids loved it.Didn't get too far into the sand dunes and wasn't sure if the camelos would do a runner any minute but it's important to do something that scares you every day 😀Little worry that they're not treated too well.

2hr 30min wait with a two and four year old despite booking in advance. Female member of staff was rude to my wife when asking for an update. There must be a better system available. Camels were brilliant, however I very much doubt they see the fruits of the labour, the company are clearly raking it in. In Lanzarote we didn't pre book and were on a camel within 2min.

Its a nice day out, but do not romantize it. The staff really cares about the camels, but still its a little bit sad. We sat on a really old camel. We arived around 9:30 and we were up 2 hours later. So you will have to wait a long time.

We were picked up, In a mini bus which seated 7, there were other couples to be collected. I'm happy we decided to be picked up as the drive is high up the mountain and roads are very narrow, the driver spoke a couple of different languages and is really friendly. The weather wasn't great the day we went, so do check the forecast before you go. When we got there, we were shown around the botanical garden which was really enjoyable, looking at all the different plants. They had lots of different animals you could feed. The camel ride is on a saddle whereby the man sits on the left and lady to the right, balance for the camels. I did feel a little guilty as the camels are walking through stones. However, most of the pathway is cleared for them, but I couldn't help wonder if it was sore on their Hoofs.Afterwards we had a nice tapas, chicken rice paella, cheeses, tomatoes, homemade jams and marmalades and juice it was really nice, and a shot of rum. All the staff were really friendly. I'd like to do it again on a warmer day though.

Once again, If you in Gran Canaria I would highly recommend you do this, its not for the elderly though as there are a few parts on the trail that can be rather bumpy, otherwise Just Do it, it's not very well signposted so we got a taxi from our hotel in playa del ingles 8€ each way , great value

Amazing experience, a must do! Good price (€13) for a half an hour ride. They take pictures of you that you can buy if you want at the end of the tour for €5 each( printed image only) Staff is really friendly , helpful and funny 😊 The park itself is closed for cars, so park anywhere when your GPS says make a turn but you see it’s closed down, you need to park on the main road(free) or the multi-storey opposite the park.

Wonderful experience for my birthday. Memorable. Worth all the sun and sand in he eyes😆Camels are lovely animals, treated well and staff was very kind and funny during ride.Just one negative thing: little harder to find meeting point, maybe some corrcet indicators would help. We called to receive indications.

Absolutely a "must visit". Friendly and absolutely honest staff. We apparently overpaid for one of the kids, and they came up to us and told us to come back after the trip and get the money back.Great trip with the camels, walking around in the sand dunes. Fun experience riding the big camels, especially for the kids. Trip is approx 30 minutes, which is very reasonable.Hardly any wait time, eventho there were many people. Each trip with 10 camels carries 20 people.

A great experience...HOWEVER, it is difficult to get in. The website or our local guides didn't mention this.Even if you have a ticket booked for a certain day, you need to be there between 9-10am (10am latest) to book a ride time. They only run until early afternoon, so if you turn up late (as in, after 10-10:30am), you ain't going.Even if you turn up at 10am and get a place, it could be a few hours later (we walked towards the beach and found a cafe). For our first attempt, we turned up at 11am and they were fully booked for the day. So we had to revisit.Staff are very friendly and helpful. They have a shaded tent area to wait if you wish. The ride through the dunes was about 40 minutes, and spectacular. So overall, the experience is excellent, and well worth it...it is just difficult to get a date/time.

A great experience! I'd recommend going earlier in the day as it gets extremely hot! All the camels seemed well looked after and all the guides knew each camel by. name. Would recommend to anyone!

A must try when in the island. We found it online and thought lest try it, it was a really good choice that we took. The tour was really good, the staff there was helpful and friendly. They take photos of you and you can print it out for a small fee or while on tour you can ask them to take photos from your phone and they happily do.

Nice, polite service. Well organised ticketing system The ride is really enjoyable and peaceful. Actually maybe a bit longer than 30min. Nice dune views. Camels treated very well, you can see and sense that bond between the animals and their owners. Very much recommended.

Has a place where people can wait sat in the shade if they are not going on the ride. Enjoyed the camel ride, pleased it was only about 40 mins though as very bumpy on your back, has a steel rod with no padding on. Seat not uncomfortable and place to hang on, which I needed.

A camel ride to go once in a lifetime and see the dunes without walking in the sun. A good experience but something is missing, the walk made me long and a bit boring , I think they should do something more dynamic although the Instructors are very friendly, they take pictures of you with your mobile and if you ask them for information about the camels, they give it to you without any problem. And one of the instructors gave my daughter a stuffed animal, the treatment is better.

A lovely outing and something different to do. The camels are very calming, the keepers were friendly and made it enjoyable for all. We turned up early and had no problem getting a ride, wasn't too hot first thing either.

Would highly recommend this experience to anyone family's, solo travelers. It is a fantastic thirty minutes. We actually thought there was just Camellos roaming around when we first arrived at the main gate near the car park it was a ten minute walk for us then to figure out where it was. At €12.00 per person you can't complain at that price. We rode Andras it was a challenge just getting on, my wife was very nervous so I had our five year old on my knee, you are secured to the seat via a very thin piece of rope about stomach hight not really secure but still. The camel stood up and I thought jeez we are high. Then we had our thirty minute ride out and back around a protected nature reserve in maspolomas, it really is such a beautiful area. Then it was time to go back to base and get off and wow that was the scary part literally though we were going to fall out of the seats. We had our photo took just before setting off and went and viewed it and for €5.00 we got the souvenir. For us as a family it was probably a once in a lifetime experience and so was well worth it. The staff are so professional and friendly, the camels look well looked after. Thank you for the experience we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.

Not much info about how to get to the site. So we were very confused. Turn out there are two main entrances to get to the camel safari, one is through the gate next to the car park, another entrance was right on the opposite of the site, across the dried out river bed! We wasn’t sure at the beginning so we walked all the way to the the car park gate on the northern side of the site. It was quite a bit of walking (about 5 -10 mins. No sign or anything, so we were a bit worried. It was a Sunday in early November. We found Plenty of car parking space along the road. I suggest you to look for those spots before deciding to pay for the indoor car park.It was fun and an easy ride on the two seated chair on the camel. Much nicer than riding one ( we did it for an hour in the Sahara ouch!) to be honest it didn’t feel that much special compared to our experience at the Sahara desert but we still very much enjoyed it. €12 pp for 30 mins is not bad for a fun activity especially with the kids during a holiday. The pictures are good show offs to your friends aha!The only sad thing is you can’t actually see the big sand dunes up close. You still need to walk up the dune to see the spectacular view. best route to reach the sand dunes safely is by following the path where right next to the camel safari site. There are signs telling you to stick to the dedicated path but most people just walk anywhere they wanted anyway. No one says anything. The camel seemed well fed and in are in good healthy the only concern I had was the metal mouth guard. It didn’t look comfortable. I hope they have been treated well by the business owner.

Easy to get to. It turns out riding camels is very bumpy 😆. Nice people at the premises. You can buy photos of you riding the camel for 5 Euro, which is cheaper than many other places/with other animals. I recommend buying a stuffed camel afterwards, quite good prices! It is difficult taking pictures yourself while riding as it is bumpy; you don't want to drop your phone 😉. Impressive sand dunes.

My friend and I enjoying the spectacular Dunes in the Camel Safari, Maspalomas. The staff were very friendly, the camels appeared happy and healthy.....all in all a fabulous trip....at such a reasonable price!! Tip...Wear mosquito repellent 😃
Is a short ride, and thanks God was shot, I felt bad for the camel's. The experience is once in a lifetime, getting in touch with this beautiful animals and have a taste of what a caravan ride feels like in a desert is something you need to check on your bucket list. You will see 3% of the desert, so prepare yourself for a separate trip to enjoy the desert.

Very enjoyable camel ride. The only thing I didn't like was the lack of sign posts, so you will need Google maps to find the way or ask for directions.

Good place, the tours are still on and frequent enough with two "caravans", we didn't have to wait much. The staff is friendly and helpful. You need to have coins to buy drinks from the vending machines (change is possible), there two tents with concrete sitting all around for those who don't ride. The chairs are as comfortable as seen on the images 🙂
