A decent hotel with a really nice balcony view of the see. The rooms were decent, and the balconies were an added bonus as they were also bigger than expected, but they were overlooked by everyone above you or around you. The hotel is very high up and also has a lift that takes you from floor to floor. This lift was a really big down point on this place as it took ages sometimes and it also broke down one day meaning me and family had to carry baby and pram up many stairs. The hotel, as mentioned is also really high up in the mountain. It's fine to walk down but you need a taxi back up if you have little ones. Food was ok too a variety of things to eat.

The staff are amazing and the cleaners really helpful. Rooms NEED air conditioning. Food is OK but we would do bed and breakfast only again.Entertainment is sometimes questionable but at least there trying.Overall we had a great time and would go back. The lift is entertaining in itself. 🤪👍🇪🇸🌞🌞🌞

The rooms are ok but old and the cleaning was not very good. Most of the staff are very friendly and helpfull. The food could be better, some of it was under cooked and some of it was cold. There is not a lot to do or see in the immediate area so you do a lot of taxiing. Definately not a hotel i will be returning to.

Just come home this morning .The views were stunning and worth the money. Loved the views. You are situated at the top of the mountain, but the views are spectacular. There is a lot of steps in these apartments. There are two lifts that can be used. The doors on the lifts close very fast. The lager was tropical. You could have the spirits free if you were all inclusive.Branded cocktails and other spirits you had to pay. I just used their vodka with Pepsi max great. They have cardboard cups, not a fan.I would take plastic pink ones next time.Food a vast selection of hot, cold , salad, cheese , burgers, pizza, pasta, kebab, and so on you won’t starve. I enjoyed the Asian night , barbecue night, food not hot but I don’t mind that. I did notice a microwave there so you could heat up food if wanted.Pool lovely size and not cold just right, the area is like a sun trap boiling the floor does get very hot throughout the day.First think breakfast take a towel down and place it, I waited till dinner time and there was room.I didn’t bother with entertainment I went out and about or just relaxed on my balcony and listened. The staff worked very hard to keep the place ticking. There is negatives but there will always will be but I feel thatI would go here again. Lovely place. We arrived at 10.30 in night, we bought pop from airport as we knew we would be thirsty arriving as there is nothing in the room, and didn’t know our way about hotel and too tired to check it out. Hope this was helpful

Just returned from a week break at the Altamar. It has so much potential to be just that bit better, but overall it was a good stay and I’d recommend going there for a nice getaway.Areas for improvement- Installing an ac unit in each apartment would be ideal. Not even anything super fancy, just an ac unit in the bedroom would work- The lift, well it has a mind of its own. If you’re on level 0 or 1 then it’s unfortunate because if the lift decides not to stop on your floor despite pressing the button 5 minutes ago, then you’re screwed. We did have to walk up from 0 to 3 on a few occasions as thankfully the pool and restaurant were only on level 3. The lift was also out of use on one occasion but was swiftly fixed. I believe there was another lift but as we were on side a, we never used it (nor knew where it was!)- Lack of cleaning around the pool area. Notices say not to leave towels out before 10am due to cleaning but 1. This rule was never listened to, and 2. I never saw any cleaning. I know this didn’t take place during the week we were there as there was a wonderful corn plaster next to the pool that was there for the duration of our stay- Beds were always made, bins emptied and new towels put in the room, but the floor was never swept. I don’t know about anyone else, but my hair falls out like crazy. I didn’t mind sweeping it myself, but there was no dustpan and brush to pick it all up- As you are on the top of the hill, everything is really far away. We braved the walk downhill once which took longer than google suggested so we ended up using taxis (it also wasn’t good for the chaffing)- If you are in room 49a like we were, you literally are at the furthest point away in the hotel. There were a few other rooms also, but honestly if you have mobility problems, the amount of up and down steps despite the lift do get rather annoyingPositives- Staff were all very friendly and always happy to help. Reception were specifically friendly and helpful which was nice- Entertainment was always good, and it made a difference that the entertainment staff were English and Spanish. Mae and Gaz are fab.- Pools are warm and a good depth- Lovely views of the sea from the balconies, very picturesque- Food was always good, we had some really nice meals including the bbq which was lucky to fall on two nights we were there. Desert and breakfast were my fave because they had hash browns and proper sausages!!- Having a salon/beauty parlour on site was good, nipping in for a reasonably priced 30 minute massage for €20 or 60 minutes for €40 was a luxury- The hotel not offering a specific “kids club” meant that there were not many young children there. This could be a positive for some, looking for a relaxing break, or a negative if parents are looking for something to keep the kids entertained throughout the day. Whilst the entertainment did do this, I’d say it was predominantly for those aged 7+ (like pool, darts, etc, not really kiddy things to do)- Not having to queue for drinks was good, it was all help yourself, even the alcoholOverall our experience was good. It would have been better if there was ac in the room, but we did know that when booking. Everything was as expected, nice and a comfortable stay.

The restaurant is good and has nice food, nothing out of this world but definitely very good.2 different swimming pools that are good for swimming in but not very deep.Very nice ocean views from apartment balconies that also have sun beds and chairs on them.Rooms get very hot so I would say it's worth buying the air conditioning rooms.Has an arcades and a small area to play football or basketball which is nice.Downside is the location is not in walkable distance of the main center so you will have to take a taxi (roughly 5 euro to get there).Overall I would say it's a nice place and me and my family enjoyed our visit here.

The view here is beautiful...Visited June 9th for a week superior room...Balcony is massive the L shape sofa for people to use as a bed wasn't the best my son is 6ft and couldn't get comfy as had to share with our 11 year-old however pushed them together to make a double bed which was better- not a lot of room to walk about inside but it came with everything you need for self catering a freezer coffee maker big deep sink fridge microwave and more!Towels were replenished I did clean but didn't need to as maid came 3 times in the week.Pools: these are a highlight spotless clean and never have to fight for a sunbed inflatables allowed in the pool near the hairdressers and the other pool is so photogenic! We only had one breakfast here (we were self catering) wasn't really for us but lots of choice! The hotel really is high up and we must of spend at least half a day at least in total waiting for the lift but it was better then having to walk. This is the reason we wouldn't return here we are used to being on ground level and although taxis were cheap we like to stroll and we couldn't walk to the beach with 2 children was a bit much in the heat.We also didn't like the 12pm checkout even though our coach was collecting us at 6.30pm we didn't arrive until nearly midnight so expected a later checkout also would be a good idea from jet 2 or the hotel to have the option of a welcome package? (Tea coffee milk water)Arriving at 11.35pm having to drag our suitcases down to floor 1 after a long travel with two kids was a lot then there was nothing open to get food or drink and not even a bottle of water in the fridge. It meant we had to drag our younger one out to the near europa centre to try to find something to eat.It lead to a grumpy child. That being said this hotel deserves to be 4 * not a 3 the reception staff helped everytime we asked for something (1xspar staff was a bit of a misery)It was clean and although not a lot of entertainment for kids in the evening there was music a pool table activities in the day and the much loved football pitch cage- also the lizards are a great spot and the view again is second to none!Pack factor 50+ when they say canary Island sun is different they're not lying I burned on the 1st day something I've never done! The aloe Vera cream in the tub is wonderful and I'm gutted I never bought one home!

Have just left Altamar and have to say I had a great time . I was worried about travelling on my own with 3 kids but it was full of activities for them which kept them busy with the animation crew. The magic show last night was amazing and also the Acrobats were great. Every night there is different entertainment to keep them busy. The staff were all super friendly. The kids playground and pool were beside each other so the kids went from one to the other throughout the day. They really enjoyed it .There was alot of steps to walk with the little ones as sometimes the lift was busy but bring built on a mountain with such spectacular views it was worth it !Room was clean and spacious with large balcony/terrace.The buffet has lots of different types of food to choose from and the self service ice cream station and chocolate fountain were a huge hit with the kids, not to mention the sweet cart .I will definitely be back over the summer . It was by far one of the best resorts I’ve stayed in .Location was great with €5 to the beach /Puerto Rico in a taxi.Catriona

5tu visit in 10 years. Love the room the view the weather. USD to love the entertainment. Not so much this time. 2 nights no shows. Very boring. Apparently the hotel isn't making money so cutting the entertainment budget. The head guy is leaving in October. He has always made our holiday. He's highly entertaining a great guy. Sad to see him leave. He is one of the reasons we return. Food isn't as good. Drink ok but if you have cocktail machines please ensure they work. They don't. 8 nights only 1 cocktail. They come out as coloured water. Also if you're cutting tree branches at 7.10 in the morning less than a metre from my room I would appreciate a warning. Rudely awoken. Stepped onto the balcony to branches falling. Dangerous. I would hate to see this hotel go into decline. Management think about what you are doing. I really want to return next year.

Lovely hotel with a beautiful view. Rooms were clean and of a decent size for 2 people. Patio area was a big plus with the sunbeds and table, peace itself! We were All inclusive, the food was very good, especially the breakfast, which had fresh omelettes every day as well as the usual hot and cold selections. Some of the staff were more friendly than others, in the restaurant and the bar, but I suppose you get that everywhere. The hotel reception staff were very friendly and efficient, the shop was very reasonably priced, saved carrying heavy items from further afield. The lift had a mind of its own, you really didn't know if it was going to go up or down sometimes, and it was desperately slow. But, it still beat walking!Overall we had a fabulous 5 night break, we would recommend this hotel.

A nice hotel with great views. The room has a living room, here including a small kitchen, and a bedroom of decent size. The balcony is quitte big and has two sunbeds. Cleaning is done every day. The only disadvantage is the accesibility - restaurant and the pools are at 3rd floor, reception at 6th; so you will end up taking the stairs to reach the pool area/restaurant from your room which for some may be problematic. There is a lift but it gets pretty crowded around the breakfast/lunch time. We had all inclusive and was quite ok for the price paid (200€ extra for all inclusive per adult, free for kids). There is variety every day and dinners had specifics, e.g Mondays asian food, Tuesday mexican and so on. Drinks were good as well served from 11:00-23:00. Snacks can be served 11:00-22:00 and they have burgers/sausages (borderline average, they could do better here) and ice-cream. Could have been nice with some fruits but they serve only at lunch/dinner.The hotel is located on the top of a cliff so going down to the beach (amazing beach at Amadores btw) takes some effort - about 20 mins. going down and 30 up with a 7 yo. We ended up taking taxis (4€/trip) instead since it was quite an effort for the young guy. They have a free bus from the hotell but when we arrived on the 12th April that was the last day in service.

Great hotel. Pool lovely and rooms clean and spacious. No air con in rooms but have a fan. We got room only and upgraded to all inclusive on the last day of our trip for only £32. Worth it as the food and drink options are good. Views from hotel are lovely and always have taxis outside to take you wherever.

The people at this hotel are very helpful. The views are amazing. I'd recommend all inclusive. The cleaners are around quite often and are very polite. It's like having a mini apartment. Kitchen and sitting area with tv, wifi. 2 people can sleep in the bedroom and another 1 or 2 in the sitting room. Balcony has amazing views. 2 lifts, 1 on block A and 1 on Block B. Dining is perfect. Two swimming pools and a kiddies pool and ball area. Entertainment is good too. Killer darts, bingo during the day and different kinds of entertainment at night. You will need a car if you are not the type who wants to get around on buses or taxi. I asked at reception at 10am and the car was there at 10:30. Don't come here if you are picky and moany about things because they will just laugh at it. All in All, A great spot for the money. April has 22, 23, 24 degree's heat. Thank you Altamar and staff, we had great craic. 👍 ps don't forget the zoo. Dolphins are amazing and if you have mobility issues then let them know b4 you get a room.

This is not a review but hoping to get some information. I've booked a stay here in August, I was just wondering what is available in regards all inclusive option - snacks, drinks, ice cream etc are the drinks self service , does pool bar serve snacks. I have a 10 year old with me and dont fancy having to get out of pool to get lunch / snacks / drinks all the time ! Any info greatly received .

Have just returned from 2 weeks at this hotel , our 5th visit . Very nice hotel in a brilliant position with spectacular sea views . Lots of stairs and not suitable for people with mobility issues . All the staff work very hard keeping the hotel clean and lookin good. I must mention our lady cleaner ,Santana , who she was an absolute joy to be around , a really cheerful, lovely lady . Now my really big moan , and that was the food !!!! We were half board , so had our evening meals at the hotel , but they were so bad we had to go out 4 of our 14 nights . A really bad selection of food , badly presented and cold . If u wanted pasta , pizza or chips you were OK , the only decent evening meal we had was the BBQ . As I said our 5th visit , but the food on our last 4 visits was good , nothing like this time . A thank you to the reception staff for sorting out a couple of small problems we had .

Our first time at Hotel Altamar and self catering, On arriving welcomed by nice reception staff who explained, how to locate our room. Got to the room and the usual holiday self catering accommodation comprises of all usual things, nice size and excellent view, the only downside for us was no air conditioning we had two ceiling fans on constantly but not cool enough for us, so slept with the balcony doors open! But we have heard that some rooms have air conditioning but not many. The complex was big open had two swimming pools one most children would go to while the other was more adults but children was aloud but no diving or inflatables, plenty of sun loungers two shower points toilet rooms for men and women, nice bar, big internal dining room and very nice balcony dining area. As we was paying for our meals we eat out all the time and only had snacks at the hotel so can't comment on the food. Staff are great friendly helpful and nothing is to much for them to do for your stay, the entertainment team are good for a laugh bingo and happy hour from 4=5 buy one drink get one free the bingo is great fun. We think the Altamar is in a good location to other destinations and cheap taxis, food out and about not as cheap as I can remember but we loved every minute of our stay we will definitely go back, hopefully a room with air conditioning, if not I will get another fan lol.

Staff very friendly apart from the hotel manager he was grumpy. We upgraded to a superior club room with sea view. Room was very small compared to the pictures on there website. Beautiful view apart from the building site opposite our terrace with constant drilling, banging and a lot of shouting from the builders. We were a family of 3 adults 1 child (child 17yrs) only 2 sun loungers on our terrace so I asked if we could have 2 more but got told no because they only normally take bookings of 2 adults 2 children. Food was lovely but very repetitive.

We have the superior club 2 bedroom. Suite and it's stunning. Beautiful views food is awful staff needs to be trained in customer service we paid to go all inclusive and food is so bad we had to go out to eat I can't fault the room. And balcony but the food spoilt it for us. And the general unfriendly attatude and the 12 hour journey to get here really was not worth the time and effort I'm sorry to say my daughter paid over 2 thousand pounds for this and it's half way through th e holidays and we are ready to go home very disappointing

Stayed here for the week and would 100% recommend staying here loved every minute of it , hotel reception staff so helpfull and polite , cleaners and cooks and restaurant workers polite and so nice . Gazza and the other entertainers were fab. And last but by no means least ( they do say save the best until last) zoubida the lady who organises the excursions and trips cannot say enough good things about her greeted us each morning when going out, organised our water park trip and took the time as she does with all guests to talk to each of you absolutely beautiful lady so polite helpful and a genuinely nice person. We stayed all-inclusive food was great different theme each evening , pools brilliant ,room was lovely and spacious for my family ( 2 teenage daughters) and most of all the views that you get from this hotel are breath taking . Will 1000000% return to this hotel as grancanaria is now my favourite place thank you Altamar Hotel Puerto Rico Gran Canaria from the guests that stayed in room 121B xxxx

The place was very clean and the staff were very helpful. The taxi down to the beach and town was only 4 euro so very cheap to get out of the resort to do some shopping if you fancy it. The 2 pools were good and clean. The food was different every day. Not to everyone's taste, but always something to eat. Would recommend

Probably a 3.5/5 if I could give that. The positives:Lovely, big, well-equipped roomsPlenty of sun loungers and parasolsViewsWell positioned for the Europa Centre with its range of shops, bars & restaurantsThe negatives:The funicular (elevator) which broke several times a day (there are a lot of steps to navigate!)Location - maybe a bit harsh but it is out of the way slightly meaning you will need to get taxis to/from the resort centre. It's walkable but punishing in the heat. Can get very loud around the pool. Lots of shouting and swearing - even around children. We went self-catering so can''t comment on the food & drink available but heard some mixed things.I would not recommend this hotel if you have any mobility issues. Even as someone in relatively good shape I struggled when the lifts were out of order and even so you must use the stairs to navigate between the lift to some apartments.

A really nice hotel which l would really give 3.5 stars. The room was excellent, the staff excellent , the amenities good, the entertainment fair to good, the food very good most days, odd day it was down to fair especially on Sunday evening. The cable car lifts were to say the least poor to fair. The A side lift was extremely busy, always full, broke down twice, and with a mobility problem this was the hotels downfall in my opinion. My only other gripe was the behaviour of a minority of the British tourists. Sometimes they let the UK down with their attitudes.

Stayed in apartment 100A. 2 adults 1 10 year old child. The 3rd bed in the living area was never a bed in it's life. For 3 days of our stay we all tried to sleep on this caravan type couch. Requested at least a mattress, this was supplied (didn't make a lot of difference). The duvet was two open-ended sheets with a blanket tucked inside which moved around as the person moved. Ended up 3 of us in two single beds. So not acceptable.Lift unreliable kept breaking down. On one occasion we were having breakfast level 3, lift broke down and was not available till 1.30pm that day. We are pensioners with our 10 year old granddaughter so were stuck on level 3 for 4 hours. Ridiculous.Food for the first 5 days was awful, just awful. Had no option but to eat out which we had not budgeted for. The last 4 days food picked up to a semi reasonable standard. This hotel is definitely NOT for anyone of any age with any walking issues. There is no bar between the two pools only the restaurant bar. No bar in the reception area either. There is no air conditioning, only large ceiling fans.Areas are well cleaned bedrooms every 2nd day, although we did initially have a bug infestation in the bathroom, which the hotel quickly sorted out.Hotel is lovely to look at, clean with stunning views, but that is about it for us unfortunately. The entertainment team were marvellous and should be well commended. The tried so so hard to involve everyone in their entertainment well done.Older restaurant staff, sullen, at times rude but younger staff could not be more helpful. We certainly won't be back and sorry to say cannot recommend.

Great hotel, spectacular views. The room we were in was really nice. Great post ls, nice range of drinks and snacks if you go all inclusive. The location is right on top of a cliff, so walking to the town or beach and back is a definite effort and not to be attempted if you have issues walking up 700 steps. There is however a free bus to the town and beaches that is really fast and reliable.

Rooms are very nice. The crew is nice. The funicular "elevator" is a treat. We paid for "all inclusive" i wish we did not. I feel like a 2. rate guest. We are forced to either drink from paper cups or glasses that are otherwise used as vases for single stem roses. Food is slightly above mediocre, i suppose it is adapted to all the children and pensionares, little taste and no passion. Slightly bothered some days with children playing football in the caged ball park. The slamming in the fence gets annoying after a bit of time. Pools are great, the view is spectacular😊. Great bus service.

Nice hotel, very nice staff - the only reason it's not 5 stars is because there could've been a bit more for vegans on the menu (but to be honest that's a little picky). What I really wanted to highlight was the awesome and seemingly endless energy and effort by Andreas (the kids entertainer). They're all good with the kids, but in particular i wanted to give him a shout out and a big thanks for putting so much effort into everything he does. If anyone reading this gives out pay rises, consider this an endorsement for that guy 🙂

Nice rooms and great view from the balconyThe food was also good (we had al inclusive)Heated pool and plenty of sunbedsFree transfer to the beach and free high-speed wifiThe only thing that I didn't like was that the hotel charges for small things. Pool towel €2.50 and €10 in deposit. Change towels cost extra. Ac in room €10. Beautiful hotel but why when the hotel is not full due to covid do they allocate an apartment with a big tree blocking the sun to the balcony
Cons- It's bad without a car because everything is far away.- it will be worse with the car because you won't find a parking place nearby at all.- One slow elevator for a large hotel.Pros+The view is excellent.+Rooms are good and clean+Nice pools***Conclusion***So if you don't have kids and your hobby is hiking, this hotel is good for you.

Stayed here for 14 nights , very unusual lift system to get to different floors, built in the hill side, cheap taxi 🚕 to get to the beach ⛱

Stayed here a few times now & highly recommend. Last time we stayed we tried a different hotel never again will always book the Altamar. All the staff are great from bar staff to house keepers and entertainment staff, all polite & friendly. It’s in a great location too at the top of the hill and has excellent views from all the rooms. The food is good can be repetitive if your there more than one week but is still cooked fresh and always something for everyone. Pools are good sizes. Can’t wait to go in May (hopefully fingers crossed 🤞 it doesn’t get cancelled)

Stayed here for a week in September and it was amazing. the staff were so friendly , the rooms were always clean and tidy plus the sea view is to die for. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in the area , it is also so close to everything the beach and shops are walking distance away.

I'm giving a five star review on the following.Gazza the entertainer...he is the best entertainer on the planet. Very funny he should be a comedian, done everything for our son Alfie.Thomas Cook club staff were amazing be really sad to see them go, hence why we are not booking back next year, and we go every year. The pools ----- swimming pools are very cleanThe restaurant is very tidy and selection of food is amazing.

Loved our stay here. Hoping to return very soon for a little holiday. As we thoroughly enjoyed the hotel and it location. We were all inclusive and could not fault the food. Although first night we did have to go out for a pizza as we were too late for the restaurant
